Cooperation for European integration and the sustainable energy transition of the Republic of Moldova became the main topic of discussions between Dominykas Nedzinskass, a representative of the Geopolitics and Security Studies Center (GSSC), and Cristina Pereteatcu, the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Energy. During the meeting, issues related to strengthening the energy sector of the Republic of Moldova and aligning it with European standards were discussed.
"GSSC, in partnership with the Office for European Integration (EIB) and with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, is implementing a strategic project that brings Lithuania's advanced energy experience. Our goal is to support the European integration process of the Republic of Moldova and accelerate the transition to a green and sustainable economy," said Dominykas Nedzinskass.
During the meeting, important topics regarding the development of the sustainable energy sector were discussed, including:
- Establishing clear sustainable development standards for biofuels, bio-liquids, and biomass-based fuels in line with the European Union's energy and climate change goals.
- Creating a functional market for system services by exchanging experience with European countries to enhance the country's energy security.
- Supporting the installation of new balancing energy capacities to ensure a more sustainable and efficient energy system.
Additionally, measures to adjust the regulatory framework in the energy sector based on the Lithuanian model were discussed, including the introduction of balancing mechanisms in the gas sector and the development of effective strategies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, particularly when using biofuels and biomass-based fuels.
"Accelerating the integration of sustainability criteria into national policy and adapting them to the requirements of the European Union will make a significant contribution to the development of a sustainable energy sector, supporting the Republic of Moldova in its transition to a green and sustainable economy," emphasized Cristina Pereteatcu, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Energy.
Thanks to these strategic partnerships and Lithuania’s experience transfer, the Republic of Moldova is taking concrete steps towards a more eco-friendly, more sustainable, and more integrated energy future within the European Union.
