Large renewable energy producers that meet the established requirements will be prioritized in the process of obtaining grid connection permits. This decision was made today at a Cabinet meeting.

The document mandates that system operators provide access to the grid for renewable energy producers who receive support under the "fixed price" scheme for a period of six years. This means that connection requests from large producers who meet the criteria will be placed at the top of the waiting list. If the requested capacities are unavailable, alternative solutions will be offered in areas where grid capacity is available.

The need for this project arises from the fact that of the 96 active permits with a total capacity of approximately 1600 MW, only 5% have been actually connected to the grid. This situation limits the opportunities for investors with real intentions to develop renewable energy power plants.

In the long term, the project will contribute to increasing the share of renewable energy in the country’s energy balance and fulfilling Moldova's commitment to reach a minimum of 30% renewable energy consumption by 2030. In this regard, the first auctions are currently being held to grant the status of large producer meeting the criteria, with 105 MW allocated for wind energy installations and 60 MW for photovoltaic installations.
